Emissions = removals means we’re keeping Earth’s balance by making sure what we put back is as much as what we took out.
Imagine you have a piggy bank, that's like Earth. Every time you put coins in, it's like emissions, which are the stuff we add to the air when we use cars, lights, or heat. But if we just keep adding coins without taking any out, the piggy bank gets too full and might even overflow! That’s like climate change, things getting warmer because there's more stuff in the air.
Now, removals are like taking coins out of the piggy bank. These are ways Earth (or we) can take back some of that extra stuff, like planting trees or using special machines to catch carbon from the air.
So when emissions = removals, it’s like having a perfect balance in your piggy bank, you're adding as much as you’re taking out, and everything stays just right!

- You blow up a balloon, then let the air out, the net change is zero.
