What is enumeration?

Enumeration is when you count things one by one and give them numbers to keep track.

Imagine you have a bag full of colorful marbles, red, blue, green, and yellow. You want to know how many there are. So you take out each marble, say “1,” then “2,” then “3,” and so on, until all the marbles have their own number. That’s enumeration!

Like Giving Each Friend a Number

Think about your friends at playtime. If you want to know who is first in line for the slide, you can say “You’re number 1!” Then the next friend gets “number 2,” and so on. This helps everyone know their turn, that’s enumeration too!

Enumeration Helps You Know How Many

When you count your toys before bedtime or figure out how many cookies are left in the jar, you're doing enumeration every day. It's just counting things one by one to know exactly how many there are!
