What is Genetic predisposition?

Genetic predisposition is when your body has special instructions from your parents that can make certain things more likely to happen to you.

Imagine you have a toy box full of building blocks. Each block represents a part of your body or how it works. Some blocks are passed down from your mom and some from your dad. If most of the blocks in your toy box are for making strong legs, then you might be more likely to run really fast, just like your brother or sister.

Like a Family Recipe

Think of genetic predisposition like a family recipe that’s been handed down through generations. Your grandma's recipe for chocolate chip cookies is special, and so is yours. If most of the people in your family have a tendency to make really good cookies, then you probably will too. But maybe you’ll add a twist, just like how some people might love adding sprinkles or extra chocolate.

It’s not that you're guaranteed to get everything from your family, it's just that you've got a head start on certain traits because of the blocks (or ingredients) you were given.
