What is Human Landing System (HLS)?

The Human Landing System, or HLS, is like a special car that helps astronauts go from space to Earth, but on a much bigger and cooler scale!

Imagine you're playing with your toy cars in the driveway, and suddenly one of them gets super fast and zooms up into the sky. That’s kind of what happens when astronauts leave Earth, they’re inside a spaceship that goes all the way to the Moon or even farther.

Now, when it's time for them to come back home, the HLS is like their ride waiting at the end of the journey. It swoops down from space and gently catches the spaceship so the astronauts can step out and walk on Earth again, just like getting out of a school bus after a long trip!

How it Works

The HLS has big, soft parts that open up to wrap around the spaceship, kind of like how your blanket wraps around you when you're cozy in bed. This makes sure the astronauts land safely and comfortably.

Sometimes, the HLS even takes them on a little tour after landing, it's like having a fun ride home instead of just walking!
