What is locus?

A locus is like a secret path that all treasure hunters follow to find hidden gold, except instead of treasure, it's points that share something special in common.

Imagine you're playing with your toy car on the floor. Now, say you draw a circle on the floor with chalk. Every point on that circle is exactly 10 inches away from the center, like how your toy car is always 10 inches away from where you started. That whole circle is the locus of all points that are 10 inches from the center.

A locus isn’t just any shape, it’s made by points that all follow the same rule, like a group of friends who all have to wear red socks on Monday.

For example:

• The locus of all points that are 5 inches from your bed is a circle around your bed.
• The locus of all points that are equidistant (the same distance) from two corners of your room is a straight line, like the middle path between those two corners.

So, a locus is just a fancy name for a shape made by points that all follow the same rule, and it’s everywhere you look!
