What is macula?

The macula is like a tiny, super-powerful part of your eye that helps you see clearly and do things like read or recognize faces.

Imagine your eye is like a camera, the macula is the part that takes the most detailed pictures. Just like how a phone camera has a zoom lens to take close-up photos, the macula lets you focus on small details, like the words in a book or the lines on a puzzle.

How it works

Think of your eye as having layers, kind of like an onion. The macula is right in the center of the back part of your eye, and it’s made up of special cells that send messages to your brain. These messages help you see colors, shapes, and fine details.

If the macula gets a little tired or damaged, maybe from looking at screens too much or getting older, it can be harder to see clearly. That's why people might need glasses or have trouble reading small print.
