What is Oikoumene?

The Oikoumene is like the biggest neighborhood on Earth, everyone lives there, and they all know each other.

Imagine you have a really big toy box with lots of different toys in it. Some are from your room, some from your brother’s room, and even some from your friend's house. But no one else has any toys, just those people. That whole space with all the toys is like the Oikoumene.

Nowadays, we still use Oikoumene to talk about a large area that feels united or shared, not necessarily the whole world, but a big part of it. It’s like saying your toy box is full and everyone plays together, even if they don’t all live in the same room.
