What is Readability?

Readability is how easy it is to read and understand something you're looking at.

Imagine you have two books. One has short words and simple sentences, like "The cat sat on the mat." The other has long, tricky words, like "The feline assumed a position upon the woven fabric." The first book is more readable, because it’s easier to understand.

Think of reading like solving a puzzle. If the pieces are big and hard to fit, it takes longer. But if the pieces are small and match up easily, you finish faster. Readability is like having easy puzzle pieces, they help you understand what you’re reading without getting stuck.

Short words and short sentences make things easier. Long words and long sentences can feel like climbing a big hill, it takes more effort! So, the simpler the words and sentences, the more readable something is.
