REM sleep behavior disorder, or RBD, is when your brain gets confused during dreams and makes you act them out while you're sleeping.
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy car, but suddenly it starts driving on its own, like it's been taken over by a tiny robot. That’s kind of what happens to people with RBD. While they’re dreaming, their brain says, "Hey, you're in the middle of a big adventure!", but their body doesn’t know it's supposed to stay still. So they might jump, kick, or even talk during sleep, as if they're fighting off a monster.
What Does It Feel Like?
If you have RBD and you’re sleeping next to someone, they might feel like they’re being poked or pushed, like your blanket is alive and trying to start a wrestling match. Sometimes people with RBD even wake up confused, thinking they were in the middle of a big fight.
It’s not magic, just a mix-up between your brain and body while you sleep. And just like your toy car can go from calm to wild in an instant, dreams with RBD can turn sleepy time into a sleep adventure!
