What is replacement?

Replacement is when you take something out and put something else in its place, just like switching your toy from one hand to the other.

Imagine you're playing with blocks. You have a red block on top of a blue block. If you want to make it look different, you might take off the red block and put a green one instead. That’s replacement, you took something away and put another thing in its spot.

Think about when you wear your favorite shoes to play outside, but then you come inside and switch to slippers because your feet are tired. You’re doing replacement again! You took off the shoes and put on the slippers instead, both are kinds of footwear, just different ones.

Replacement is all around us: when you change a light bulb, eat a bite of cake after finishing your ice cream, or even switch from drawing with crayons to using markers. It's like giving something a new friend to hang out with!
