What is Stronger than many modern roads today?

A very strong kind of street made from special stone is stronger than many modern roads today.

Imagine you're walking on a road that's just been built, it feels smooth and solid under your feet. Now imagine that same road, but instead of being made from regular concrete or asphalt, it’s made from very hard stone, like the kind you might see in a big park or even in a castle.

That special stone is called limestone. It's been used for thousands of years to build roads and buildings because it doesn’t break easily, not like some modern roads that can crack when it gets too hot or too cold.

Why Limestone Is So Strong

Limestone is like the toughest cookie in the world, it’s hard on the outside, but it also has a little bit of flexibility inside. This means it can handle heavy cars and trucks without breaking apart as much as today's roads do.

In fact, some of these old roads made from limestone are still being used today, they're so strong that they haven’t needed much fixing over hundreds or even thousands of years!
