Taiwan is like a special neighborhood that’s part of a bigger city but has its own rules and flags.
Imagine you live in a big apartment building called China. One day, your neighbor, who lives in a room called Taiwan, decides to decorate their room differently and even hangs up their own little flag. They still belong to the same building, but they want to show that they're unique too.
Sometimes, other neighbors come by to visit or have parties together, but Taiwan has its own ways of doing things, like choosing different music for their party or having a special snack only they know about.
Taiwan's people are like your neighbor’s family, they’ve lived in the building for a long time and have their own traditions. Some people think Taiwan should stay part of the bigger city, while others believe it should be more independent, like a separate apartment with its own door.
So even though Taiwan is close to China and shares some things in common, it’s also like a neighborhood that wants to shine on its own, just like you might want your room to look different from everyone else's.
