What is the actual history behind Halloween traditions?

Halloween is like a big party that started way back when people lived in ancient times and used to tell stories about ghosts and spirits.

Long ago, there was a time called Samhain, which meant the end of summer and the start of winter. People thought that during this time, the boundary between the living world and the world of the dead got thinner, like a curtain being pulled back slightly. They believed spirits could come through to visit.

To make sure these spirits didn’t bother them too much, people would dress up in funny clothes or wear masks, kind of like playing hide-and-seek with ghosts! They also lit fires and made loud noises to scare the spirits away. It was like a big, fun celebration that mixed fear and joy together.

Later on, when some people moved to new places, they brought their traditions with them. Over time, these old customs turned into what we now know as trick-or-treat, costumes, and pumpkins, but it all started from a big, ancient party!
