How Earth Keeps Us Warm
Imagine you're wearing your favorite blanket on a chilly night, it traps the warmth from your body, so you don’t get cold. The Earth does something similar! It has layers, just like a blanket, that help keep the heat from the Sun inside.
What Makes the Blanket Work
The Earth’s core is super hot, like a fire burning deep underground. This heat moves up through layers of rock and metal, and eventually reaches the surface, just like how your body warms up your blanket. The air around us also helps trap some of that warmth, making it easier for us to stay comfortable all year round.
Sometimes, when the Sun is high and bright, the Earth feels extra warm, like a blanket you pull over yourself on a sunny day. And when the Sun goes down, the blanket gets a little cooler, but still keeps us from getting too chilly at night.

- Like a blanket in winter, the Earth’s atmosphere helps keep temperatures stable.
