What is the Great Wall?

The Great Wall is like a really long, strong fence that people built to keep out enemies.

Imagine you have a toy box full of your favorite toys, and you want to protect them from your little brother who always takes them without asking. So you build a wall around the toy box, that’s kind of what the Great Wall is like, but much bigger!

The Great Wall wasn’t built all at once by one person. It was made over hundreds of years by many people. Some parts are made of stone, some with bricks, and others just dirt and wood, it’s like a big puzzle made of different pieces.

If you walked along the Great Wall, it would take you days to go all the way around! It's so long that if you put it end to end, it would wrap around the Earth a few times. That’s longer than going from one end of your school to the other, many, many times!

The Great Wall is not just for looking at; it was used to help people protect their homes and kingdoms, kind of like how you use a door to keep out someone who wants to come in without asking!
