What are nerves?

Nerves are like message runners that help your body talk to itself.

Imagine you’re playing with a toy car. When you push it, the car moves, but how does your brain know it’s moving? That's where nerves come in! They're like little wires inside your body that carry messages from one part of your body to another, just like phone lines carry calls between friends.

How Nerves Work

Think of your hand touching something hot, like a stove. Your skin sends a message through the nerves in your arm all the way to your brain, saying, "Hey, this is hot!" Then your brain sends back a message: "Quick, pull your hand away!", and poof, you’re no longer touching the hot stove.

Nerves can also help you move. When you decide to jump up and grab a cookie from the top shelf, your brain sends a message through your nerves down to your legs, telling them to move, and wham, you're jumping!

So nerves are like the messengers of your body, making sure everything works together smoothly.
