What Is the Science Behind Sleepwalking?

Sleepwalking is when your body gets up and moves around while you're still mostly asleep.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, but suddenly someone grabs it from you, you might jump up and run after them without even realizing it. That’s kind of like what happens during sleepwalking!

How the Brain Works

When you're sleeping, two parts of your brain are working: one that lets you rest, and another that helps you think and move. Sometimes, the part that helps you move wakes up before the rest of your brain does, just like when you wake up from a dream but still feel sleepy.

What Happens Next

Your body might start walking or doing things like opening doors or even climbing out of a window, all while your brain is still half-asleep. You might not remember what happened later, just like how you sometimes forget about the cookie you ate before bedtime!

It's not magic, it's just your brain taking a little nap break while your body decides to go for a walk!
