What Is the Social Fabric?

The social fabric is like the threads that hold everyone together in a community.

Imagine you’re playing with your friends at recess, some of you are passing around a ball, others are building a fort with leaves and sticks, and maybe someone is telling a story. Each person is doing something different, but they're all part of the same game. That’s like the social fabric, it's what connects people in a group or a neighborhood or even a whole country.

The threads in the fabric are the relationships between people, like when you share your snacks with a friend, or help someone up after they fall. These little actions make the fabric strong, just like how a blanket stays warm when all its threads are tight and together.

Sometimes, if people don’t talk to each other or don’t help each other out, it’s like some of the threads start to pull apart. The fabric gets a little loose, maybe even a little torn, and things feel less cozy or connected.

But just like you can fix a tear with a stitch, people can work together to make the social fabric strong again!
