Time-out is when you take a short break from something to calm down or think better.
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, and you get really upset because your friend took it away. Instead of yelling or pushing them, you go to a special spot, maybe the corner of the room, for a little while. That’s time-out. It's like when you're too excited or angry to keep going, so you take a quick pause.
Why we use time-out
Time-out helps you feel better and be more ready to play again. It gives your brain a chance to slow down. Think of it like pressing the "pause" button on a game, you’re not stopping forever, just for a moment.
Sometimes, grown-ups use time-out with kids too. They might say, “Take 5 minutes in the quiet corner,” so the kid can breathe and remember why they were playing in the first place.
Examples
- A child is sent to a corner for 5 minutes after throwing a toy.
- A student is asked to sit quietly for a few minutes after talking during class.
- An athlete takes a short break between rounds in a competition.
