Wood is what trees become when they're cut down and used to make things like tables, chairs, or even toy blocks.
Trees are like big, living buildings, and wood is the inside part of those buildings, kind of like how a block has a solid middle that makes it strong. When you chop down a tree with an axe, you’re taking out this inside part, which is wood.
How Wood Feels
If you touch a wooden table or a wooden spoon, it feels rough in some places and smooth in others, just like your skin! That’s because wood has little lines and patterns on it, called grain, that show how the tree grew over time. Some kinds of wood are soft, like the inside of an apple, and others are hard, like a rock.
What Wood Can Do
Wood is super useful, you can paint it, carve it into shapes, or even burn it to make fire. It’s strong but not too heavy, so it’s perfect for making things that last a long time, just like how your favorite toy stays with you through all your adventures!
