What is yellow?

Yellow is the color you see when something shines like the sun on a bright day.

Imagine you have a box of crayons, yellow is the one that looks just like a lemon or a buttercup flower. When light hits these things, they reflect yellow back to your eyes, and that’s what makes them look yellow.

How we see yellow

When it's sunny outside, the sky can feel bright and warm because the sun gives off yellow light. Your eyes catch that yellow, and you know it's a happy, shiny day.

What makes something yellow

Some things are naturally yellow, like bananas or honey. Others become yellow when they get light, like paper in the sunlight. It’s kind of like how your face feels warm when you're outside on a sunny day, the yellow light is making everything feel bright and happy too!
