What Makes a River ‘Fast’ or ‘Slow’?

Imagine a river like a line of runners. If there are fewer runners, they can move faster, just like how rivers with less water flow slowly, and rivers with more water rush quickly. Rivers also go fast when the ground beneath them is steep, like when you slide down a hill on a playground.
