Some people are left-handed because it runs in their family. It's like how some kids have curly hair and others don’t, it’s a trait you can get from your parents. If one of them is left-handed, there’s a better chance you’ll be too. Scientists think this happens because of something called genes inside our bodies that help make us who we are.
Examples
- A boy uses his left hand to write and plays basketball with his left hand too.
- A girl writes with her right hand but throws a ball with her left, she’s probably ambidextrous.
- In a family, both parents are left-handed, and their child is too.
