A desert is a big, dry place with very little rain. A desert island is a special kind of desert, it's an island that has the same dry, hot conditions as a desert. Imagine a sandy beach surrounded by sea, but no trees or water nearby, that’s like a desert on land and in the ocean.
Examples
- A desert is like a huge sandy playground with no water to drink, a desert island is that same playground but surrounded by an ocean.
- Imagine being stuck on a beach with only sand around you, that’s what it feels like to be on a desert island.
- If a desert were in the middle of the sea, and you could walk there from the shore, that would be a desert island.
