What's the difference between accuracy and precision? - Matt Anticole?

Accuracy and precision are both about how good your guesses are, but they mean different things.

Imagine you're trying to hit a bullseye on a dartboard. Accuracy is like how close your darts are to the center, if most of them land near the middle, you're accurate. Precision is like how close your darts are to each other, if all your darts cluster together, even if they’re not near the bullseye, you're precise.

When Accuracy Matters

If you're baking cookies and you need exactly 1 cup of sugar, being accurate means you get that amount right. If you're a little off, your cookies might be too sweet or too plain, it matters in the end result.

When Precision Matters

But if you're drawing a picture with a ruler, being precise is more important. If your lines are all wobbly and uneven, even if they’re close to the right length, your picture won’t look neat. It's about consistency.

So accuracy is about how close you are to the correct answer, and precision is about how consistent your answers are, like hitting the same spot on the dartboard every time, whether it’s near the center or not.
