What's the difference between rationality and critical thinking?

Rationality is like having a map to get from one place to another, it helps you find your way using logic and facts. Critical thinking is like checking if that map is actually correct, it helps you question, compare, and see if what you're doing makes sense.

What rationality feels like

Imagine you're trying to build a tower with blocks. Rationality means you use the rules you know: bigger blocks go at the bottom, smaller ones on top. You follow the plan step by step. It’s steady and sure, like building with your eyes closed but knowing exactly where each block goes.

What critical thinking feels like

Now imagine someone says, “Wait, what if we put a tiny block at the bottom? Will it still stand?” Critical thinking is asking that question. It's looking around, checking if the rules are right or if you can make something even cooler by breaking them just a little bit.

Rationality helps you go from A to B. Critical thinking helps you decide if A and B are actually where you want to be, or if there’s a better path altogether. Rationality is like having a map to get from one place to another, it helps you find your way using logic and facts. Critical thinking is like checking if that map is actually correct, it helps you question, compare, and see if what you're doing makes sense.
