Math symbols are like secret codes that help people do math faster and easier, just like how a special key helps you open a door quicker.
Imagine you have 5 apples and get 3 more. You could count them all out, but instead, we use numbers and signs to make it simple: 5 + 3 = 8. The plus sign (+) is like saying “add,” and the equals sign (=) says “this becomes.”
Why do we need symbols?
Before people used symbols, they had to write out whole words, like "five plus three equals eight." That takes longer. Symbols make math feel like a game with shortcuts.
How did symbols start?
Long ago, people used real things around them for counting and measuring. If you use your fingers to count, that's like the beginning of numbers. Over time, they started using shapes, like a straight line (-) to mean “one,” or two lines (=) to show “the same as.”
So math symbols are just smart shortcuts people made from real life, not magic, but clever thinking!
