Who is Mount Tambora?

Mount Tambora is a big, powerful mountain that once caused a giant eruption, like when a volcano goes off and throws rocks and lava everywhere.

What Makes Mount Tambora Special

Imagine you have a jar full of jellybeans. Now imagine it gets so full and squished inside that it finally burps, all the jellybeans fly out! That’s what happened with Mount Tambora. It was a volcano, just like those in Hawaii or Italy, but it had been quietly building up energy for a long time.

The Big Burp

In 1815, Mount Tambora had its biggest burp ever, so big that it changed the weather around the world. It made the year after that, called "the year without a summer," very cold and gloomy in some places. People couldn’t grow crops well because of it.

Even though it’s been quiet for a while now, Mount Tambora still reminds us how powerful nature can be, just like a giant, sleepy monster who wakes up and shakes the world!
