You fall asleep and have cool adventures in your head, but when you wake up, it’s like those adventures are gone, just like toys you leave out on the floor and forget about.
Dreams are like stories your brain tells while you're sleeping. Sometimes they’re silly, sometimes they’re scary, and sometimes they’re super fun! But memory is like a little helper who remembers things for you. When you're awake, that helper works hard to remember everything, but when you sleep, it takes a break.
That’s why most of the time, you don’t remember your dreams, it's like trying to catch raindrops with a net while running in a circle!
Why It Feels Like You’re Forgetting
Sometimes, your brain is so busy having fun during the dream that it doesn't have time to tell the memory helper about it. It’s like when you're playing with blocks and don’t notice how many you've used, you just get lost in the game.
But sometimes, if you wake up suddenly or right after a dream, your brain has a chance to say, “Hey, remember this!” And then you do remember, it's like getting a surprise gift right when you open the present box!
So dreams are there, but memory is just taking a little nap.
