Imagine you have a giant box of your favorite books. Now imagine that box gets burned, flooded, or thrown away over a long time. That is what happened to the Library of Alexandria. It did not go up in flames all at once. It was a big collection of scrolls and books in Egypt. First, when Julius Caesar fought a war in Egypt, a battle near the port caused a fire that burned some books. Later, Christian leaders made rules that hurt the library. Finally, Muslim rulers took over the city. By then, the library was already old and not very full. So, the library did not just 'burn.'
