Your car door has a special hole where you put your key. Inside that hole are tiny metalpins that hold the lock in place. When these pins get dusty or sticky, they block the key from sliding out smoothly.
The Tiny Pins
Think of the lock like a jar filled with marshmallows. Your key is a long stick trying to pull them all out at once. If the marshmallows are fresh and loose, the stick slides right through. But if the marshmallows dry out or get sticky, they hold onto the stick tightly.
Why It Happens
Sometimes the metal parts inside wear down slightly over time. Dust and dirt also love to hide in those little holes. When winter comes, cold air makes the metal shrink just a tiny bit tighter around your key. This extra squeeze feels like resistance when you pull.
The Easy Fix
Most people just jiggle the key while pulling. Jiggling helps line up all the sticky pins so they let go one by one instead of fighting together. Sometimes a little spray oil works wonders too.
