Why do many countries drive on the left side of the road?

Many countries drive on the left side of the road because it’s how they’ve always done it, like following a rule that everyone agrees on.

A long time ago, when people started riding horses and later driving carriages, they mostly sat on the right side of the horse. That made it easier to wave or talk to people walking by on the left side of the road. So, when they turned a corner, they moved to the left, which became a habit.

Over time, as more people used this way of moving, the rule stayed, and that’s why many countries still drive on the left side today.

In other parts of the world, people sat on the left side of their horses or carriages. That meant they turned to the right, so they drove on the right side of the road, like how many kids in your class walk on the right when they go to recess.

It’s just a difference in habits, like how some people use forks and others use spoons for their cereal!
