Imagine your brain is like a movie theater. Some people’s dreams are like colorful movies on the big screen, while others watch them in black and white. Why? It depends on how their brains work when they’re sleeping.
The Colorful Dreamers get to see full-color dreams because a part of their brain called the visual cortex is active during sleep. The Black-and-White Dreamers might not have this same activity, so they only see shades of gray and black in their dreams.
Examples
- A child might dream about flying in a bright blue sky full of rainbow-colored clouds.
- An old man dreams about his black-and-white television from childhood, with no color at all.
- A student dreams of solving math problems on a whiteboard that's completely gray.
