Why Do Some Stars Explode While Others Simply Fade Away?

Stars are like giant balloons full of fire. When they run out of fuel, some of them burst, like a balloon popping and shooting fire everywhere. Others just slowly dim down until you can’t see them anymore, like a candle burning out.
