Imagine you're playing with a flashlight in a room full of tiny, round marbles. When the light shines directly through the room, it goes straight to the other side, like when it's noon. But as the sun gets lower in the sky, like at sunset, the light has to travel through more and more marbles before it reaches your eyes. Each marble scatters the light a little bit, making the sky look red or orange, just like when you shine the flashlight through many marbles, the farther the light goes, the more colorful it gets.
Examples
- Imagine the sky is like a filter, at sunset, it's letting only the warm colors through.
- If blue light is scattered away, red and orange light stick around to paint the sky.
