When you exercise, your muscles work really hard. Sometimes they get tired too fast and send out a message that says, 'I need help!' That makes them contract, or squeeze really tight, without letting go. This is called a cramp, and it feels like your muscle has gone into overdrive.
Examples
- Running around the block and suddenly your calf muscle feels like it's on fire.
- Doing push-ups and feeling like your arms are made of bricks.
- Swimming laps and getting cramps in your legs after a few minutes.
