Why Do We Get Dizzy When Spinning?

When you spin around, the liquid inside your ears sloshes like water in a cup. This liquid tells your brain which way is up and how fast you are turning.

Your eyes see everything staying still or moving quickly, but your ears feel slow and wobbly. When you stop spinning suddenly, the liquid keeps going for a moment. It is like when you are on a bus that stops but you keep sliding forward.

Because the liquid moves one more time after you stop, your brain thinks you are still turning! This makes the room look like it is spinning backwards or forwards again.
