We have different kinds of sleep because each kind helps us in a special way. Like when you're playing with your toys, you need to rest and get ready for more fun. In the night, your brain switches between two kinds of sleep: one that helps you relax, and another that helps you learn and remember things.
Examples
- When you're tired from playing outside all day, your body goes into deep sleep to feel refreshed.
- Dreaming happens during the night when you're in REM sleep, that's why you might wake up with a smile or even a nightmare!
- After a long day of school, your brain uses light sleep and deep sleep to store what you learned.
