Why Do We Laugh?

We laugh when something funny happens, it feels good and makes us want to giggle or even jump up and down.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, and suddenly it does something unexpected, like rolling away on its own! That surprises you, and that surprise makes you happy inside. When we feel surprised in a fun way, our brains send signals to our faces, telling them to make smiley expressions, which is when we laugh.

Why It Feels Good

Laughing feels good because it's like a little party in your body, your tummy might even tickle! It’s the same feeling you get when you jump into a puddle on a sunny day and everyone around you starts giggling too. Your brain thinks, “This is fun!”, so it helps you laugh more.

Why We Share Laughter

When someone laughs next to you, like your brother falling off the couch, you might start laughing too because your brain says, “They’re having fun, and I want to have fun with them!” It’s like when you play tag, if one person starts running, soon everyone is running too!

Laughter connects people, just like playing together does. We laugh when something funny happens, it feels good and makes us want to giggle or even jump up and down.
