We enjoy spicy food because it gives our taste buds a fun little kick that makes us feel alive.
What Happens When We Eat Spicy Food
When we eat something spicy, like hot peppers or chili sauce, it sends a special kind of message to our mouth. This message is from a compound called capsaicin, it's the thing that makes your mouth feel like it’s on fire!
Why We Keep Eating It
Even though our mouths feel hot, we often still want more spicy food. That’s because when something feels hot, our brain thinks we’re being challenged or having fun, just like when you play a game and try to beat your best score. The more spicy the food is, the more exciting it feels!
Sometimes, after eating spicy food, our mouths feel tingly or even a little burned, but that’s just our taste buds giving us a high-five for being brave enough to eat something bold and fun.
