When we're sick, our bodies get busy fighting off germs, and that can mess with our voice. Our throat is like a tiny room where sound is made, when it gets swollen or filled with mucus, the sound has to go through a smaller space, so it doesn’t come out as clear or loud.
Why It Happens
When you're sick, your body sends extra fluid and inflammation to your throat. This makes your vocal cords (the parts of your voice) feel like they’re stuck in honey, it’s harder for them to vibrate properly, so your voice sounds different or even disappears.
How It Feels
It's like trying to speak through a sponge, you can still make noise, but it doesn’t sound the same. That's why sometimes people say things like 'I just don't have my voice anymore!'
