We crave sweet foods in the afternoon because our bodies need more energy. After we eat lunch, our body uses up some of its stored energy. This makes us feel tired and a little grumpy. When that happens, our brain says, 'I want something fun!' and chooses sweet food, like candy or cake, to make us happy again.
Examples
- A student grabs a candy bar after lunch because they feel sleepy and want to be happy again.
- An office worker eats a piece of chocolate when their afternoon meeting feels long and boring.
- After finishing her meal, a mom reaches for some cookies on the counter.
