Sound travels faster in water than in air because water is more crowded, like a busy playground compared to an empty field.
Imagine you're shouting across a big, empty park, the sound has to travel through lots of open space before it reaches your friend. But if you’re shouting in a packed room full of people who are all close together, the sound can move from person to person much more quickly.
Water is like that packed room, its molecules (tiny building blocks) are closer together than air's molecules, which are spread out like kids playing tag on a huge field. So when sound waves go through water, they bump into more molecules in the same amount of time, it’s like having more friends to pass along your message!
In air, the molecules are farther apart, so the sound has to travel longer distances between each "bump", making it slower.
That's why you can hear a whale singing underwater much clearer and faster than someone shouting in the air! 🐳✨
