The Dance
Imagine you are holding hands with a friend and walking in a circle around them. If you keep facing your friend the whole time, your body has to turn exactly once for every step around the circle. The Moon does the same thing! It travels around Earth while spinning on its own axis at the exact same speed.
Why It Happens
Long ago, the Moon spun much faster. But Earth's gravity pulled on the Moon like a giant rubber band. This pull created friction that slowed the Moon down until it got "locked" into this perfect rhythm. Now, no matter where you are in your bedroom window at night, the same craters and dark spots are looking back at you.
