Why does vapor pressure depend so strongly on intermolecular forces?

Vapor pressure is like how much a group of kids wants to leave the playground and go home, it depends on how strongly they’re held back by their friends.

The more kids who run away (or molecules that escape), the higher the vapor pressure becomes. If your friends are weak-holders, many kids will run off quickly, making the playground feel empty fast, just like how a liquid with weaker intermolecular forces has a higher vapor pressure.
