Why Does WiFi Slow Down When More Devices Join?

Imagine you are in a room full of people trying to talk. Everyone has to wait their turn so they do not shout over each other. WiFi works the same way! Your router is like a teacher who lets one device speak at a time.

The Talking Rule

When only one person speaks, it is fast and easy. But when three friends all want to tell you about their day, they have to pause and listen. This waiting time adds up. If everyone talks at once, they clash like two kids bumping into each other in the hallway.

More Devices, More Waiting

Think of your WiFi as a single lane road. A car zooms by quickly. Now add ten more cars. They still fit on the road, but they cannot pass each other easily. Each device sends data packets little bits of information. When too many devices send packets at the same moment, the router gets confused and asks them to try again.

The Result

This extra listening and retrying makes your videos buffer or games lag. It is not that the road got narrower. It just has more traffic stopping to check if it is clear before driving. So next time you pause a video, remember: your phone is probably waiting for its turn to talk!

Think of WiFi as a dinner party conversation rather than a highway.
