Money is actually worth anything because people agree it’s valuable and use it to trade things they need or want.
Imagine you have a basket of apples, and your friend has a basket of cookies. You both like each other's treats but don’t want to eat the same thing all day. So, you decide to swap, you give them an apple, and they give you a cookie. That’s trading, and it works because you both think apples and cookies are about equal in value.
Now imagine everyone does this, some people trade apples for cookies, others trade cookies for juice, and so on. It would be hard to keep track of all the trades! So, one day, someone says, “What if we use coins instead? They’re small, easy to carry, and we can all agree how much they're worth.”
That’s where money comes in, it's like a special kind of token that everyone agrees has value. You don’t need to trade apples for cookies anymore; you just give someone a coin, and they know it’s fair.
And the best part? If enough people believe in money, it keeps working, even if it’s just paper or metal!
