The Superpower
How It Sees
Imagine looking up at the sky and seeing bright stars. Your phone does something similar but uses invisible signals from satellites orbiting Earth. These signals tell it how far away they are. If it hears at least three of them, it can figure out its exact spot on a map.
The Backup Team
But what if you are inside a big building where the sky is hidden? Your phone has backup friends! It listens to Wi-Fi routers in nearby houses and shops. Each router has a unique name tag. By checking which names it hears, your phone guesses where it is. It also talks to cell towers that send out loud beeps. This mix of sky signals, Wi-Fi whispers, and tower booms helps your phone know exactly where you are.
Examples
- Inside a mall, my phone uses store signs instead of stars.
- The map dot stays still even when I walk around.
