Why were castles built?

Castles were built to be strong homes for kings and knights who wanted to stay safe.

Imagine you're playing hide-and-seek in a big house with thick walls and small windows, that’s kind of like a castle! Kings and knights lived inside, and they needed places where enemies couldn’t just walk in. Castles had high walls, towers, and sometimes even drawbridges to make it harder for enemies to get in.

Like a Fort in the Sky

Some castles were built on hilltops or mountains, like a fort placed up high so you could see enemies coming from far away. It was like having a bird's-eye view of the game, you could spot trouble before it got close!

Inside the Castle

Inside, there were big rooms for feasts and meetings, and smaller ones where knights trained with swords and shields. Sometimes, castles even had secret passages, like hidden doors that let people sneak around without being seen.

So, castles weren’t just cool to look at, they were real-life forts that helped kings and knights stay safe and in control!
